About cielab
Cielab's head office is based in Brisbane Queensland on the central east coast of Australia.

Cielab was formed in September 2006 and is a subsidiary of Peppard Street Pty Ltd. It was started by well respected Queensland expert Michael Rooney after he recognised the need for the open and easy to understand sharing of colour related information in and around the printing related industries.

The goal of forming cielab is to dispel some of the myths regarding colour that make it hard for people new to it to produce consistent and accurate results.
By offering independent colour solutions from the vendors that a print producer purchases their consumables from, they can have an unbiased assessment of their facilities and become free to purchase anywhere they choose while retaining print quality and accuracy (keeping running costs to a minimum).
This also ensures that they have an honest and unbiased company to call upon when the need arises (something that can at times be hard to be sure of when things aren't going smoothly for the producer).

Cielab is in the process of aligning with experts around Australia to have a solid network of solution providers.
In a very short space of time we have experienced substantial growth and recognition with articles on us in many of the trade magazines reinforcing Rooney's decision to form the company.

About Michael Rooney
Michael Rooney started off in this industry early on, working at a copy bureau in Brisbane (a subsidiary of DES) as customer service/showroom salesperson where he was exposed to the very beginning of the wide format revolution from pen plotters to full colour.

From there he moved into a key role within one of the largest screen printing and digital producers in the country "Colorcorp". Here he experienced many forms of production across a wide variety of formats and processes including screen-printing, offset, inkjet, pre-press, electrostatic, dye sublimation, finishing, signage production and installation to name just a few. In this role he was also involved in the setup of franchise offices around the country.

Wanting a change, he started at Pep Central (a centralised pre-press facility to the IPMG group in Brisbane), where he added additional offset and pre-press knowledge to his experience.

Moving on from there he then rejoined DES as their Queensland sales person of consumables and equipment to the industry. At DES he was subject to intensive colour training with Chromaticity USA during which he formed a strong interest in colour within the industry, and started to recognise a shortage of understanding on the topic.

He then progressed to PT Store where he put his new passion into action forming a total solution from ground up based on the well proven HP Designjet 5500 series of printers with Cyclone Colorbus rip software. He worked tirelessly on the solution producing a bundle of over 30 custom ICC profiles for the full range of consumables for the printer as a "turn-key" solution that handed the print producer a solution that required no real colour knowledge to produce consistent results across all customer files and print media types. This solution proved extremely popular and opened the company to a new market, leaving many competitors behind in the technology race.
He also worked across a wide range of brands and processes, equipment and software brands giving a great cross view of different industries.

While there, he continued his training with many international colour companies such as GIA (a section of X-Rite). He also formed his own well written and easy to understand courses on colour basics to help print producers understand their problems with colour. These courses also proved a major success, reinforcing Rooney's notion that there was a substantial need for an independent company that can help people struggling with colour related problems.
